"The purpose of this organization shall be to prevent the loss of life
and destruction of property by fire and other disasters to the community of
Ledbetter and surrounding areas through the agreement of Mutual Aid."
The Ledbetter Fire District services the community of Ledbetter, KY located
in the far South Western part of Livingston County. Established in 1978, the
Fire District covers over 75 square miles and operates two fire stations
equipped with two fire pumpers, a rescue unit, medical unit, brush/wildland
unit and a command post. The Fire Department responds to approximately 120
calls for service each year. Most of the calls are medical or accident
related with about seven actual fire calls.
Ledbetter Fire District conducts training sessions bi-monthly and requires a
minimum of 40 hours of training a year for each Department member. Training
consist of Fire Suppression techniques along with medical and vehicle rescue
training.
Ledbetter Fire Department is dispatched by a Central communications center
located in nearby Smithland, KY also in Livingston County. The department
receives the calls via a radio paging system.
The Fire Department is governed by a Board of Trustees that include a
Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasure, Secretary along with other board members.
The Board meets at 6 PM on the last Thursday of each month. The meetings are
open to the public.
Currently the Fire Department is in the process of opening bids for a new
fire apparatus to be purchased sometime during March of 2006 with an
expected delivery date in October of 2006.
